we are shedding light in to the experience of motherhood with guest feature Laura Parkins. Laura opens us up to a creative portrait world that is commonly experienced but not well documented; breastfeeding and mother-child bonding portraits.
Laura shows us the importance and value of this work and how she uses her camera to help normalize nursing and give a welcoming seat at the table for the new mother as they tackle the uncharted land of the first year with their little ones.
Laura explains her relaxed and open process in creating these portraits of bonding and authentic moments with her clients. Laura starts the session off with a cup of tea and a relaxed environment to talk with the client about her plans, what her aims are, and the client's journey into motherhood/ breastfeeding to understand the story she is trying to convey in her images.
Laura teaches us how she works with harsh lighting in a home space, why home spaces are important, the different effects that plastic filtering can have on lighting, how she frames her subjects, how she lights her images to match her iconic style, and how she works with the blaring outdoor sun to create raw and breathtaking portraits.
